Weekly Message 3/27/2022

 Greetings!

I hope you all had a good weekend. I surely didn't anticipate waking up to snow on Saturday morning.

This week we will continue the unit of control of primary particulates. We'll finish the lesson on gravity settlers on Monday and start the lesson on centrifugal separators. I'm going to combine Friday's lesson on gravity settlers with the example problem we'll do on Monday into one video, which I'll post on MediaSpace. I'll also post the lesson on centrifugal separators.

Project 2 is also posted and it is due March 30th along with participation question 10. Project 2 focuses on indoor air quality and again you will be able to choose from numerous options. If you need the grace period (available through Sunday, April 4th, 11:59 pm), please let me know. Please copy your team mates on your email request so that I can easily update the due dates for all of you.
The last of the homework assignments are in the folder called Control Technologies. I've opened the first on gravity settlers and centrifugal separators. It is due April 6 at 11:59, along with the next participation question (PQ11).
Have a good evening,

Dr. Masten

Happy First Day of Spring!  And Happy Nowruz (Persian New Year) to those who celebrate!

This week we will continue studying dispersion modelling. On Friday we will start the unit on source control technology.

Also due is Participation Question 9.

Project 2 is also posted and it is due March 30th. Project 2 focuses on indoor air quality and again you will be able to choose from numerous options.

Holly Demers will continue to be in class to assist with setting up Zoom and moderating questions.

The second EES meeting of the semester will take place on Monday March 21, 7-8:30pm in EB room 2250. Dr. Greg Tatara will be speaking about biohazards in wastewater and the future of environmental engineering. Free food provided and all majors are welcome!  Email me if you would like to be added to the emailing list.

Weekly Message 3/13/2022

Good evening,

I hope you all had a relaxing Spring Break!  Spring is near, even despite this weekend's snowfall and cold. We saw the first robins the other day.  The Sandhill cranes and the geese are back, along with the red-winged black birds and a whole host of other birds I can't identify. Today's walk in the woods was filled with the sound of the returning birds.

This week we will start the unit on modeling ambient air quality. We'll start with box models on Monday and then move to dispersion modeling later in the week. I will also discuss Project 2 this week.

This week (Wednesday 3/16/2022), the homework assignments that will be due are:

    Clean Air Act
    Meteorology
    Participation Question 8
If you need the grace period, just let me know.
On Monday, I will post grades for Project 1 and send the graded rubrics to the groups.
Project 2 is also posted and it is due March 30th. Project 2 focuses on indoor air quality and again you will be able to choose from numerous options. I moved the due date back a week to give you more time to complete your reports after receiving your Project 1 grade and rubric.
Holly Demers will continue to be in class to assist with setting up Zoom and moderating questions.
See you in class tomorrow,
Dr. Masten
